The 2020 crisis

Over the past few weeks, I have spent many hours trying to figure out what is going on in the world right now. The economic crisis, the behavior of the french government, the health crisis etc. I had the feeling that everything that happens is linked and that the power in place is doing everything to distance the population from understanding the issues at stake in the world, even if it means manipulating information and the truth.

I am neither an economist, nor politicized, nor do I pretend to hold the truth, my will is to understand, and if possible to help to understand by being interested in the truth and the facts.

Before going any further, I want to warn you that this article is only the result of my own reasoning and that it is still being written. It will be refined over time depending on new events that arise and the improvement of my understanding of the subject, you are free to form your own opinion. Thank you for your understanding.

Predicted by many economic experts, the 2020 crisis affects economies around the world and heralds long-term repercussions that will impact everyone

Summary of the facts

In early December 2019, the first cases of a then unknown virus were reported in Wuhan, in China's Hubei province. Belonging to the coronavirus family, it attacks the respiratory functions of the human body.
Within three months, it spreads around the world; WHO officially names it "COVID-19" (for COronaVIrus Disease 2019) on February 11, 2020.

A month later, on March 11, WHO re-categorized the epidemic as a "pandemic." In the process, most states are tightening access to their borders, while many of them emulate China and institute containment measures for their citizens.

At the beginning of April, 50% of the world population was thus confined, or nearly 3.9 billion human beings in 90 countries. The main objective is to avoid the saturation of hospital services.

In the meantime, a dramatic 20-30% collapse of major global stock indices, which began on February 20, bottomed out on March 23, before a rebound still in progress, as governments and central banks react quickly through unprecedented scale plans aimed at supporting the economy and restoring confidence in the markets.

Faced with the collapse of global energy demand and against the background of a price war between producing countries, oil prices are falling to levels not recorded since the beginning of the 21st century, the WTI index of US oil venturing even briefly in negative territory for the first time in its history on April 20, at -37.63 dollars a barrel.

While many countries are currently entering their phase of deconfinement, the question of the economic and financial consequences arises more than ever, at a time when a global recession of more than 5% is announced for 2020, unprecedented in times of peace.

At the end of June, globally, Johns Hopkins University had nearly 10 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, including more than 500,000 victims.
